Teen Mental Health | Adolescents ages 12+

We care about the behavior. And what’s underneath it.

We specialize in working with adolescents and their families. We take time to understand what may be driving a behavior while helping teens build the skills to respond differently.

Looking beneath the behavior

There is more to your teen’s story.

Yelling, pulling away, or struggling to go to school may be the first things you notice. Like leaves on a tree, those behaviors are visible. The feelings, experiences, and needs beneath them can be harder to see.

Trauma, loss, anxiety, bullying, overwhelm, or needs that haven’t been understood may be part of the picture. The same behavior can have different causes. We take time to understand your teen’s experience instead of assuming we already know.

Understanding the roots does not mean ignoring hurtful behavior. We work on both: helping your teen feel supported and building safer, more useful ways to cope, communicate, and respond.

Understanding and practical change

Both matter.

When your teen is pulling away, struggling at school, or reacting in ways you don’t understand, it can leave you worried, exhausted, and unsure what to try next. You may have already tried so much. You don’t have to figure out the next step alone. We’ll take time to hear your concerns, get to know your teen, and understand what life has been like for your family.

We care about what is underneath the behavior and the strain the behavior may be putting on home life. Together, we’ll work toward practical changes while making room for your teen’s feelings, your concerns, and clear, caring boundaries.

Understanding the Needs Behind the Behavior

You may be wondering, “Why is this happening, and how can I help?” We’ll explore that with you and your teen. Anxiety, sadness, painful experiences, or feeling overwhelmed may be part of the picture. We listen with curiosity and care so we can better understand what your teen needs, without reducing them to a difficult moment.

Building Skills for Everyday Life

Knowing something needs to change is one thing. Knowing how can be harder. We help your teen practice manageable ways to calm down, ask for help, handle frustration, and talk about what they need. We’ll choose small steps that fit their life and make room to notice progress, even when it comes slowly.

Growing Together as a Family

You need support, too. When it’s helpful, we’ll work with you on responding to difficult moments, staying connected, and setting caring boundaries. We’ll talk openly about how you can be involved while giving your teen space to build trust in therapy. There is room for your questions and the hope you have for your family.

A partnership with your teen

Support that carries into everyday life.

Your teen deserves a place to feel heard, and you deserve to feel supported as their parent. We’ll talk together about goals, privacy, safety, and the kind of caregiver involvement that will help. You don’t need the perfect words or a complete plan before reaching out. Caregiver support is part of individual therapy; Family Therapy remains Coming Soon.

We also offer individual therapy for women, including support for anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, and PMDD. Explore Women’s Mental Health and PMDD support.

Individual therapy: $120 per session. Telehealth is available for clients located in Texas. Contact us to discuss your needs, clinical fit, and appointment availability.
